Day 243: Splashdown Park!
August 31st, 2011
What better way to celebrate the last day of August than to head out to Splashdown Park and make a splash?! Hit up the advanced or intermediate body slides, or take a tube down Big Jim’s River Run. Take a water break and play some volleyball or sit down for a picnic. It’s a guaranteed all-round fun day at the waterpark!

Aphrodite’s are perhaps the only restaurant in Vancouver to serve a mouth-watering, wholesome organic brunch 7 days a week (try the eggs benny with lemony hollandaise!). They also have a phenomenal evening fresh sheet featuring local Oceanwise fish and poultry and vegan and vegetarian and gluten-free options. Great food and it’s heart healthy!
Country Superstar Kenny Rogers will be wowing the crowd at the PNE this evening. He is one of many musical talents lined up for the Summer Night Concerts taking place every night of the 17-day fair. The concerts start every night at 8pm on the WestJet Concert Stage, and they’re included in the cost of entry into the PNE!
Bored of the beach? Spend the day at the pool instead! Head out to UBC and enjoy their indoor and outdoor pools. Show off your skills by jumping off the high platform. Cannon ball off the diving boards. Swim laps in their 50 foot long lanes. Or lay out in the sun and soak up the rays…
OK so they are doing this in London, and we are going to try to beat the record attempt for largest water fight, this Saturday from 1pm till 4pm at the lawn by the Lumbermans arch, just across the street from the kids’ water park in Stanley Park. Don't worry if you can't find it - just ask one of the 1000+ people with brightly coloured water pistols. Make sure to tell all your friends!
Spend the day at Kits beach, then stroll up to Local for a bevvie or two. They’ve got a great atmosphere, yummy drinks and super friendly and competent staff. Local is a great pint, cocktails as you like them and more than anything else, it’s the kind of place where your table is your backyard and the customers are your crowd.
If you have never fired a gun before, now’s your chance! DVC Ventures Inc. is the first heated indoor shooting range in BC that is open to the public and has rental firearms. The friendly and knowledgeable staff provide you with the necessary supervision to make your experience safe and enjoyable. It’s worth the drive to Port Coquitlam to experience this.
With one of the best rooftop patios in the city and cheap drinks, Darby’s is a sure thing on a sunny day like today. Head there after work for some Apres drinks. If you’re hungry they’ve got your basic pub grub, but done right. And when you leave, they’ve got a liquor store for you to grab some booze to go! They really do have it all!
Today’s a great day to treat yourself with a cupcake from Cupcakes! Once drawn inside by the familiar, softly sweet aroma, you are instantly tempted by an array of irresistible confections from the classic “Sweet Sixteen” (vanilla cake with pink icing and pastel sprinkles) to the sinful “Lava Flow” (chocolate cake with cream cheese icing and an injection of raspberry) – mmm!
