Description

The CROSBY HOUSE, built in 1938, is one of only two examples remaining in Vancouver of houses of the early Modern period. Designed by Robert A. D. Berwick whose practice in the history of modern architecture in Vancouver is responsible for such iconic buildings as the original BC Hydro Building on Burrard Street, [now the Electra] as well as many of the early buildings at UBC. In the design of the house Berwick embraced modern technology through the use of new materials such as concrete and glass block, heralding a style of architecture that celebrated the new machine age. In 1939 the house gained national recognition, for the innovative design, in the Journal of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Under the City of Vancouver's Heritage Revitalisation Agreement, 2 DEVELOPMENT PERMITS & 2 BUILDING PERMITS are APPROVED to restore this home to its rightful place in Vancouver's architectural history and build the GARDEN WALL HOUSE - 1519 W 33rd Ave, MLS # V828068 - the winning design of the Canadian Architects Award of Excellence in 2006 which is currently offered for sale as Land Only with 3615 sq ft of buildable living space.
